Designing a Dog Friendly Home

Dogs are aptly known as ‘man’s best friend’. According to the RSPCA there are approximately 29 million pets in Australia, 48 per cent of which are dogs. In Bingara Gorge it is estimated that about half of homeowners own a dog.

According to Edgecliff Homes, there is an increasing number of homeowners seeking a home design that caters for furry friends.

Cassy Morley, Founder at Edgecliff Homes comments, “Dogs are just as much a part of the family as everyone else and have important needs too that can easily be adapted into the design of a new family home. Inclusive pet friendly features help dictate how a family lives in the home with their furry friends. Dog ownership figures in Australia are very high. The inclusion of pet friendly aspects will also add value when the asset is sold.

“The number one consideration is what type of dog do you have. Is it large or small? The size will help determine what elements could be included. As with all home choices, think about the budget that will be allocated towards furry friends. The sky is the limit with ideas.”
